This Is How the Tea Gets into the Bag

You’ve probably wondered how aromatic herbs are turned into high-quality tea.
Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes at Bad Heilbrunner's manufacturing facility and giving you an exclusive look at our tea production. Feel free to pour yourself a cup of tea before you join us in the making of our innovative pyramid bags.

From Large Tea Sacks to Small Bags

The sacks filled with herbs are delivered. Each sack weighs 15 to 20 kilograms. The teas are already pre-mixed in the sacks. For example, one sack contains chamomile flowers, peppermint leaves, and caraway seeds. This is how our stomach and digestion tea is created.

Once the quality control in the lab is satisfactorily completed, all sacks are moved from the pallet to the warehouse. Here, they are lined up under optimal storage conditions at a temperature of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. But they don’t stay here for long. Medicinal teas are not allowed to be stored for more than three months, and the production line at Bad Heilbrunner rarely stops and constantly requires replenishment.

The output speaks for itself!

This is our production line.

At the beginning of production, the herbal mixture is poured from the sack into a funnel. From there, it is transported in portions by an elevating conveyor to the upper part of the system. From here, the tea flows into the dosing units of the filling machine, where it is precisely measured. The machines are pre-loaded with tea rolls, which are guided along a predetermined path and then shaped through a filling tube. This is then sealed vertically and horizontally by ultrasound and filled in portions. The pyramid bag is now complete. 60 to 65 bags are produced per minute on this line.

But the journey of the tea bags is not over yet. They continue on and are counted by a counting device, according to the finished packaging. Then, they are transported via a cup to the pouch packaging machine, where they are dropped in portions. The sealed pouch now only needs to be packaged into the folding box and checked on our conveyor scale for the correct filling weight. Finally, everything is thoroughly inspected and packed at the quality control station.

At the quality control station, an employee thoroughly checks the product: Is the carton dented? Is the foil sealed properly? How does the pyramid bag look? Is the label on the bag printed correctly? Is the tea weight correctly measured? – If everything is satisfactory, the tea packages are then placed on the pallet.

At Bad Heilbrunner, we work every day to ensure your perfect tea experience, making sure that only thoroughly tested tea leaves our production line. But we also take a break now and then to enjoy a cup of tea together. Few things enchant us in these moments like the aromatic scent of herbs and the vibrant colors in the tea cup – tea is simply our passion!

In the manufacturing facility, only single-variety production is allowed. What does that mean? Only one type of tea can be produced in the entire room. This is because tiny particles of the herbs float through the air and would contaminate other teas. Therefore, after three or four days of producing stomach and digestion tea, all machines and conveyor belts must be thoroughly cleaned before production of, for example, kidney and bladder tea can continue.
